MEET OUR ORGANIST/PIANIST
Margie Foley came to St. Luke's in December, 2018. She credits her being here to our members, Bill and Rosie Kuenne. They knew her when she was the organist/pianist at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Kansas City, Mo. from 1998 until it closed in 2016. (Her mother grew up while attending St. Peter's.)
Margie started playing church services when she was a seventh grader at St. Elizabeth's School in Kansas City. She has accompanied choirs and played at many Catholic Churches throughout Kansas City.
She graduated from Bishop Hogan High School and has two degrees from the University of Missouri at Kansas City: a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, Social Studies 7-8, and a Master's Degree in Administration of Justice. Her first teaching job was in Sydney, Australia (4th grade) for one and one-half years, followed by two years in Kansas City (5th and 6th grade). She changed careers and was an Official Court Reporter: ten years at the Jackson County Courthouse and four years at Missouri Workers' Compensation. Following that, she returned to teaching and taught 1st grade for nine years at Guadalupe School in Kansas City's West Side.
In her retirement, she's enjoyed several fun jobs: Greeter at the New Theatre, Scarecrow at Faulkner's Ranch, Driver's Ed Instructor, Volunteer Coordinator at Blessings Abound Thrift Store, etc. Currently, she volunteers at the World War I Museum and as an accompanist for the Leawood Singers.
Margie is single and has two sisters and extended family. She loves reading, history/current events, traveling, good friends and good conversations.
