THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
SILENT MEDITATION: “How do we make goodness attractive? By doing whatever we can to bring courage to those whose lives move near our own. By treating our neighbor at least as well as we treat ourselves. And
allowing that to inform everything we produce.” Fred Rogers

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN No. 378 “Amazing Grace” (vs 1-4)
AMAZING GRACE
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come;
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be, as long as life endures.
CALL TO WORSHIP (From Psalm 146)
One: Happy are those whose hope is in God, maker of heaven and earth--
All: For God keeps faith forever!
One: God executes justice for the oppressed and gives food for the hungry.
All:God sets the prisoners free and opens the eyes of the blind.
One: God lifts up those who are bowed down.
All:God watches over the strangers and upholds the orphan and the widow.
One: People of God, sing praise to the One who is your help—
All: For God keeps faith forever!
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison)
We confess, O God, that the burdens which weigh us down also narrow our vision. Uncertainty of the future makes us focus on our own survival. We regard strangers with suspicion and find it difficult to trust them, much less share with them. We speak words that we regret and keep silent when we need to speak. Weariness and discouragement sap our energy and our faith. We wonder how there could be good news that is not of our own making. Forgive us and renew our faith in you. Amen
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.
MOMENTS WITH MINNIE
PASTORAL PRAYER and THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins as we forgive those
who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
SPECIAL MUSIC "We Bow Down”

SCRIPTURE: Ruth 3:1-5
SERMON:“Good Widows’ Sunday”
CONGREGATIONAL HYMN No. 586 “Let My People Seek Their Freedom” (vs 1,2,4)
EBENEZER
“Let my people seek their freedom in the wilderness awhile,
from the slave pens of the Delta from the ghettos on the Nile.”:
so God spoke from out of Sinai, so God spoke and it was done,
and a people crossed the waters toward the rising of the sun.
“Let my people seek their freedom in the wilderness awhile,
from the aging shrines and structures, from the cloister and the aisle”:
so the Son of God has spoken, and the storm clouds are unfurled,
for God’s people must be scattered to be servants in the world.
In the maelstrom of the nations, in the journeying into space,
in the clash of generations, in the hungering for grace,
in our agony and glory, we are called to newer ways by the Lord of our tomorrows
and the God of earth’s todays.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN No. 130 “God Will Take Care of You”
MARTIN
Be not dismayed whate'er betide, God will take care of you;
beneath his wings of love abide, God will take care of you.
Refrain: God will take care of you, through every day, o'er all the way;
he will take care of you, God will take care of you.
Through days of toil when heart doth fail, God will take care of you;
when dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you. [Refrain]
All you may need he will provide, God will take care of you;
nothing you ask will be denied, God will take care of you. [Refrain]
No matter what may be the test, God will take care of you; lean, weary one,
upon his breast, God will take care of you. [Refrain]
